Segment Builder
Where you can create new and edit existing segments, dragging parameters from the panel into your segment ruleset.
About Segment Builder
On the RedEye Platform, you can use Segment Builder to create segments that filter the recipients of a proposed target (for example; email) and utilise data that has been obtained in the following ways:
- User behaviour derived from website tags.
- Feed data such as a call centre contact log.
- Information provided manually when using a website.
With one or more segments, you can filter to a very specific range of recipients for whom a particular marketing communication will be most relevant. Here are some examples of how a segment might be used:
- To create a behavioural email journey.
- To use as a list for campaign emails.
- For data prospecting.
Segment Builder Overview 🎥
Creating a Segment
Segment Builder works on a drag and drop basis, allowing you to build up your rules by simply dragging the criteria that you wish to use and dropping them onto the rules field.
For further explanation of the available parameters, check out the Segment Rules page.
The toolbar at the top of the segmentation page provides the following additional actions:
Save – will save the segment once all rules have been completed.
Copy – will keep all the rules on the screen, but with a new segment name.
Group – allows you to determine the exact way in which you would like it to filter the segment.
Segment Rules
Segment Rules are rules that can be added into your segment to create a selection of customers. If more than one rule is added to the segment, the rules must be combined using an AND / OR operator. The operator can be amended by clicking on the AND / OR indicator and choosing the preferred option from the drop-down list.
These rules can then be edited to choose:
- Include/Exclude different rules
- Include people who've abandon their basket recently
- Exclude people who've purchase since abandoning
- Check for certain values against parameters
- e.g. Location contains UK
- The timeframe certain parameters/values were updated
- e.g. Has abandoned their basket in the last 7 days
The number of rules that can be built per segment is limited.Contact your Customer Success Manager if you need to discuss your rule limit requirements.

Grouping Rules
The purpose of grouping is to allow the system to determine the exact way in which you would like it to filter the segment.
Grouping returns the result of the grouped rules as a single "matches" or "doesn't match" to the rest of the segment, allowing you to mix AND and OR statements without conflict.
Grouping should always be used when combining AND and OR statementsAlways group your "OR" rules together, otherwise you'll get an ambiguous rule warning!
Segment Calculation
When all rules have been completed, the following Segment Calculation Options appear:
- Now - configure your segment to calculate only once
- Daily - configure your segment to calculate early each morning
- Reactive segment calculations can be enabled on daily segments, allowing them to re-calculate at regular intervals throughout the day
- Weekly - configure your segment to calculate on a certain day of the week
Choose the correct calculation for your segmentHaving a huge amount of daily segments can cause calculation delays on the platform, so be sure to wisely choose between your segment calculation options depending on the use-case of your segment.
